Tom currently serves as the K-12 Science and Technology Supervisor for the Westfield Public School District. He holds a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering from Rutgers University and initially worked in dense refractory manufacturing. Transitioning to education 22 years ago, Tom taught Physics before moving into administration to support teachers in science and technology education. He feels that technology is an enrichment, not a replacement, and uses this as a guiding principle when modernizing shops and labs. In partnership with his teachers, he emphasizes progressive instructional strategies, ensuring all courses, from Woodworking to AP Physics, are equally important to a student’s development. Tom is a past president of the New Jersey Science Educational Leadership Association (NJSELA) and led his colleagues during the implementation of NGSS standards and practices. He has been a frequent professional development presenter and has served on the Steering Committee of the New Jersey Science Convention, the largest science professional development event in the northeast. Tom enjoys “making” using a variety of tools from the Stone Age to the Space Age. In his spare time, Tom enjoys theme parks with his family and is the author of educational workbook materials for Six Flags Great Adventure.
