Mr. Bouwens is the Director of CTE/STEAM and Innovation for Louisa County Public Schools, overseeing a rural division of approximately 5,000 students. Over the past seven years, he has led instructional practices and designed innovative educational programs.
In 2020, he co-developed the Wireless on Wheels (WoW) program, which received national recognition for improving community internet connectivity. This initiative earned him the VACO Community Impact Award and the CoSN Community Leadership in Digital Equity Award.
Mr. Bouwens is a two-time recipient of both the Virginia School Board Association's Workplace Readiness Award and the Virginia Department of Education's CTE Excellence Award. His program was one of five selected nationally for the Rural Tech Project, securing over $200,000 for a cybersecurity training initiative, which he discussed at the White House.
Named Virginia Technology Teacher of the Year in 2017, Mr. Bouwens' innovative approaches to instruction and learning spaces have become models for other Virginia school divisions. His dedication to educational innovation and community impact continues to drive his work, ensuring students are well-prepared for future challenges.
