Jorge Fernández is the Chief Information Officer at Information Technology Services (ITS) for Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). Jorge oversees the technology infrastructure and solutions that support over 400,000 users, including students, teachers, staff, and community members.
Jorge holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Barry University and an M.S. in Management Information Systems from Florida International University. His career at M-DCPS has been marked by significant contributions, including leading the digital convergence project, providing comprehensive IT support, and implementing complex enterprise systems.
As CIO, Jorge is responsible for:
• Strategic Technology Leadership: Aligning IT strategy with the district's educational goals and business objectives.
• Infrastructure Management: Overseeing the district's vast IT infrastructure, including networks, data centers, and cybersecurity systems.
• Enterprise Systems: Managing the implementation and ongoing operations of critical systems like SAP FICO, HR, and Payroll/Benefits.
• Financial Oversight: Managing a $26M IT budget and negotiating contracts to optimize resource utilization.
• Innovation and Digital Transformation: Fostering a culture of innovation and driving digital initiatives to enhance learning and operational efficiency.
