Heather Patricco is the STEAM Teacher at Cedar Lane Elementary School, in the Appoquinimink School District, assuming the role this year. She spent the past twenty-one years as a classroom teacher, teaching grades two through five, before assuming her current role three years ago. As STEAM Teacher this year, she has transformed the classroom experience for all of Cedar Lane’s students. Students have participated in activities and projects that range from implementing the engineering design process to coding and robotics to the meaningful use of applications that help demonstrate creativity and innovation. The technology classroom has also seen a dramatic transformation that allows students to collaborate more easily while offering space to design and explore. Heather’s goal is for all students to become responsible digital citizens who construct knowledge in innovative ways that encourage creative and global communication. After working in banking for one year, she knew a change was needed. A graduate degree from Monmouth University in Elementary Education later, and her teaching career began in 1997. In 2019, she completed a second degree from Wilmington University, where she earned her Master of Education in Applied Technology.
