This session proposes an innovative approach to enhancing social studies education by integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and makerspace principles into the Social Sciences. Combining hands-on, inquiry-based learning with historical and cultural inquiry, educators can cultivate critical thinking skills, foster creativity, and deepen students' understanding of complex social issues. Through interactive demonstrations and case studies, participants will explore practical strategies for incorporating STEM and makerspace activities into social studies instruction. From designing historical artifacts using manipulatives like Legos or Play Doh to creating interactive timelines with coding, design and production with Cricut, attendees will discover how these interdisciplinary approaches can enrich learning experiences and promote student engagement. Furthermore, this session will address the challenges of implementation, including resource allocation, curriculum alignment, and assessment strategies. This session will highlight how teachers can quickly use a variety of both AI and non-AI enhanced edtech tools to create personalized learning plans which make mastery learning far easier to implement with your students! Rimmey will share how, through combining Choice Boards and the Grid Method with a whole-lot of app-smashing makes it easier to plan for every single student, in every single class.
