This presentation will introduce findings from 4 cohorts of the New Jersey state-approved Rutgers University Graduate Certificate Program in Maker Education. It is designed to enable educators to create and manage makerspaces, develop maker-based projects, and explore maker-centered pedagogy. The program, started on September 3, 2020 and is in its 5th cohort. Classes are offered in hybrid or 100% online formats and awards 15 credits (with a non-credit option). The curriculum includes courses in design thinking, developing a maker mindset, makerspace safety, facilitating maker-centered learning environments, and a capstone project. Participants will understand how educators gain hands-on experience with makerspace tools and learn to integrate maker projects into STEM/STEAM curricula, fostering hands-on, discovery-based learning. Program benefits include acquiring the skills to set up and manage makerspaces, developing interdisciplinary maker projects, and learning strategies to engage students effectively. Graduates can establish and enhance makerspaces, integrate maker projects into their curricula, conduct professional development workshops, and network within the maker education community. The presentation will also feature testimonials from past participants who were public and school librarians, artists, art educators, STEM teachers, coaches, admin, special ed teachers, and others across the world.
